Whirlpool Recalls Front-Load Washing Machines Due to Fire Hazard (2022)
Recall Overview
Whirlpool recalled approximately 72,000 front-load washing machines. The heating element could turn on during certain wash cycles when it should not, causing the rear panel to overheat and melt. No injuries were reported.
The recalled washers were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot and other retailers from March 2021 through August 2022. Consumers were instructed to stop using the steam option and contact Whirlpool for a free in-home repair.
