In 1994, Sub-Zero Freezer Company offered free inspections of approximately 69,000 built-in and freestanding refrigerators due to a potential tip-over hazard. The refrigerators could tip forward when the door was opened if not properly secured to cabinetry or wall.
The tip-over risk was greatest when the units were used as freestanding without proper anchoring. Sub-Zero offered a free in-home inspection and installation of an anti-tip bracket at no charge.
