Amana Refrigerator Shock Hazard Repair Program (1994)
Recall Overview
On November 3, 1994, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Amana Refrigeration Inc. initiated a program to fix a shock hazard in certain side-by-side refrigerators. Approximately 5,000 of the 353,000 units made from April 1993 to September 1994 had a screw on the light cover that could contact a concealed electrical wire, causing an electrical shock.
The affected refrigerators had serial numbers 9304000000 through 9409156208. Some were also sold under the Sears Kenmore brand name. Amana provided free screw replacement kits to registered owners. The refrigerators were sold nationwide for approximately $1,200 to $2,200.
